| 'Affair to Remember' celebrates 50th
"An Affair to Remember: 50th Anniversary Edition": It doesn't get much classier than Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr in the story of a playboy (Grant) and former lounge singer (Kerr) who meet on a cruise ship and fall for each other. One hitch: They're both engaged to other people. They agree to rendezvous atop the Empire State Building six months later to decide if they're meant to be together. This two-disc edition features a new digital transfer of the film, commentary by vocalist Marni Nixon and film historian Joseph McBride plus features focused on Grant, Kerr, director Leo McCarey and more. (Unrated) "Dragonlance: Dragons of the Autumn Twilight": This is an animated flick based on Dungeons and Dragons-inspired franchise. It features the voices of Kiefer Sutherland, Lucy Lawless and others.
Aybar gone, Lillibridge could win job
Well, slow down, folks. It might mean that, but Wren was careful in his conversation with me last night, careful not to portray this as anything more than it was: Teixeira signed and Boras didn't take the Braves to arbitration because all along, the agent and the Braves' new GM were in agreement on what Teixeira should get as a fifth-year arbitration guy. Wren is the one who handled most negotiations and arbitration matters for the Braves in recent years while serving as John Schuerholz's assistant, so Wren knew what Teixeira could expect to get if he took all the steps available to him in the arbitration process. No sense offering, say, $11.5 million, and having Boras ask for, say, $13.5 million. Because in that case, an arbitration panel might just as easily have chosen the $13.5 mill salary as the $11.5 mill.
Test looms large for Conservative ethnic-outreach strategy
It will work if voters are automotons which explains some election phenomena especially in the west. Attending Tamil celebrations is showing real connection with real people who have real concerns. If a couple of characters were there -well so what. Politics is always risky. A politician is always open to criticism but honest criticism. Calling Keen a liberal hack in Parliament was wrong. Calling libs taliban lovers was wrong. It echoes. It's stupid. Misfits will never be permitted to run this country. Intelligent voters will never allow it. Councilman MikeK Recalls Knievel Action Figure
Top: Young MikeK playing with Evel Knievel action figure; bottom: MikeK receives inspiration from his childhood friends before leaving for a Coeur d'Alene City Council meeting. I had a classic Evel Knievel motorcycle riding action figure when I was a kid. The stunts my brothers and I would stage for that motorcycle toy were legendary (riding out a second story window, chasing the dog around the house without getting chewed to ribbons, you name it). RIP Evel. I wonder what happened to Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man who played the role of Evel's arch-nemesis in the boyhood action figure wars?/Councilman MikeK. Question: What was your favorite action figure/doll when you were little? .
HD DVD camp implodes
If MS & Toshiba wanted to succeed so badly they should have included a HD drive in the latest Xbox Elite. From my own experience the selection of movies on HD DVD which were available to me for was miserable, less than 20 I would say. You seem slightly biased in your report. Are you one of the "hundreds of thousands" that you speak of by any chance? .
Burden falls on LeBron James, but he feels no pressure
King James suggested a trade earlier this week, telling Cleveland reporters that his team should make a deal for disgruntled New Jersey point guard Jason Kidd. "It's Jason Kidd," he said. "It's not someone else asking for a trade. It's Jason Kidd." Then he turned bold and declared that his team would win a title with Kidd. "Yeah," he said. "It's that easy." It's that easy to dream — and that impossible to make happen. Most speculation has Kidd headed to Dallas. So, James will likely have to manage with this current group, injuries, warts and all. James understands his burden well, even if he hesitates to admit it. Asked by a television reporter what fans typically ask him when they meet him, James said, "How does it feel to be LeBron James?" His reply: "I don't know." Jerry Brewer: 206-464-2277 or jbrewer@seattletimes.com.
