Following their lives and friendships through a decade of parties, marriages, conscription and of course, surfing, it is as much about the end of innocence as it is a coming of age, as their surfie ideals weather under the test of time.

Images: Storm Churns Up Massive Waves

The storm system that brought rain and snow across Southern California also churned up the surf south of the border. One of the surfers captured video while surfing 12 miles off the coast of Ensenada, Mexico.

The photographer and his friends launched their jet skis at 5 a.m. and said they used GPS to find their way in the dark.

Some of the monstrous waves they encountered were reported to be 40 feet tall.

The waves were so massive that Mexican officials shut down harbors in the area. .

SoCal Surfer Wins Mavericks

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. -- An estimated 50,000 people turned out to watch a surfer from Southern California win the Maverick's Surfing Contest in Half Moon Bay Saturday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

The big wave competition, featuring 24 surfers, drew crowds twice the size of the crowds that came out to view the 2006 event, contest spokeswoman Jennifer Mangiacapre said.

Frigid Water, Gray Skies Don't Stop Surfers in Lake Michigan

More than 2,000 miles from Southern California, the sun doesn't shine through the gray sky. Ice coats the water's edge. Not a single person walks the beach. Sand grass and leafless trees bend south as a bitter wind blows more than 25 mph.

It's a near-perfect day to go surfing.

Burton Hathaway, 31, a transplanted Californian, and two wetsuit-clad friends didn't flinch Thursday as they ran through a snowstorm into Lake Michigan, paddling out 30 yards to wait for the wickedest waves before riding them to shore.

Chasm widens between rich and poor in U.S.

I agree with Darren from Atlanta wholeheartedly. But then I'm a little biased, I suppose, since I was a college drop out surf bum who found himself washing windows for a buck in my mid-twenties and living in my van. That was a result of stupid choices I made thirty years ago. Eventually I got motivated, tired of going nowhere, and knowing nothing but surfing and washing windows, I got off my as* and got motivated. Before too long and after knocking on at least a thousand doors my window washing business soon had a dozen local college students working evenings, then it turned into a janiotorial service for business offices and banks. Now my company cleans some of the largest buildings in Southern California and I have over 200 employees whom I treat well and fairly, and my family lives "The American Dream" - a high school drop out who started out washing windows and living in his van is now a millionaire.

AC360°: Flirting with disaster

There were supposed to be pictures tonight to give you a view of the control room from the back row. The photos didn't happen because of late word from Chicago that a decomposed body, which could be that of Stacy Peterson, had been found at an industrial site in Chicago. However, If you had gotten those pictures you would have seen: - our satellites coordinator, Brooke Turnbull, with multiple phones plastered to his ears, making sure that the two late guests and two late phoners actually made air at the top of the show - our video coordinator, Ashley Corum, frantically cutting new video of investigators at the site that was being fed in from the field - our line producer, Jenny Blanco, doing rundown aerobics to make sure the hour did not become a 90 minutes showIn the end, Brooke got us the guests, Ashley got us the pics and Jenny got us out on time.
