| It’s risky. It’s exciting. Kitesurfing is an extreme sports junkie ...
Some people jump out of airplanes to get a fix. Robert Clark flies a kite. Though it sounds juvenile, the 28-year-olds version of becoming one with the wind bears zero resemblance to the way Mary Poppins spends her free time. For the love of a sport called kitesurfing, Clark surfs on a board resembling a wakeboard, which is hitched to a large kite. On the contraption, he can propel himself across the water, then periodically into the air for stylish jumps and backflips. Think of kitesurfing as skateboarding meets surfing meets parasailing meets snowboarding with a parachute an extreme sports junkies dream catchall, if the wind is right. Ive surfed. Ive jumped out of a plane. Ive bungee-jumped. Ive tried almost everything and this still beats it, Clark said of kitesurfing, which started gaining popularity a little more than a decade ago after professional surfers Laird Hamilton and Manu Bertin began demonstrating it off the Hawaiian coast of Maui.
Yair Landau: Sony's digital driver
Yair Landau could not have timed the start of his Hollywood career any better. After a brief stint in investment banking, the Stanford MBA arrived at what was then Columbia Pictures Entertainment in 1991, soon after the venerable studio had been acquired by Sony. "I joined as the leading global consumer electronics company was making its foray into entertainment," Landau says. "I view the trajectory of my career as building a bridge between a hardware company and an entertainment company. And that bridge is really built on digital technology, both for production and distribution." Starting in the studio's finance department, he moved on to corporate development and strategic planning and in 1999 formed a new Sony division designed to bring digital artists, technologists and production software engineers together in the creation of digital entertainment.

He suggested naming the interchange off Exit 7 on the westbound side of Route 6 the "State Trooper Ellen Engelhardt Interchange." "From all I'm told, she did a great job there, and this seems a fitting tribute," Turner said. "There aren't a lot of interchanges named after people. Bridges, yes, but naming an interchange is more unusual." Read the rest of this Globe story here. Some 320 homes are still without power in the Gold Coast hinterland, 250 in Bulimba and 100 in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. "This morning we had around about 12,000 out in total, but 9,500 of those were in the Sunshine Coast in the Maroochydore and Sippy Downs areas,'' a spokesman for electricity supplier Energex said.
