Steve (NJ): Can anyone defend Plaxico Burress in New England? He's the key to Manning's 'effectiveness' of late. Manning's inaccurate passes look better when Buress makes a circus catch 27 times a game... Jeremy Green: They don't have anyone that can handle him one on one all game... not even Asante Samuel. mike hunt : what does tom brady's ankle have anything to do with the redskins 08 championship run? Jeremy Green: Now that is some dellusional talk from the 2nd most dellusional franchise in the NFL. J.B. (Dunmore, PA): Mr. Green: What players do you see as X-Factors in this game? I mentioned in the SportsNation chat yesterday that Bradshaw for the G-Men and Stallworth for the Pats would be my picks. Jeremy Green: For the Giants I would go with Jacobs. His ability to pound the ball and control the tempo and time of possesion is the best defense vs.
Down On The Street: Wandering Through Freakfest 2007
The idea of recapturing a moment in time is an alluring prospect but one that seeks to deny the passage of time and thus can be fraught with frustration. Just look at the selection at your local video store for a chorus line of flicks that couldn't live up to their predecessor. But, after considering how last year's Freakfest was a definitive break from the past -- a rewriting of the city's annual Halloween celebration that sought to erase horror stories of violence, arrests and hefty cost overruns -- Madison's city fathers seemed to think this could be a franchise worth the risk of a repeat performance. (Read an account of last year's event) To succeed with this follow-up endeavor, city officials took a page from the movie producer's playbook by planning this year's Freakfest as something bigger, better and more.
Don't steal from Muni riders, Mr. Mayor
I also happily voted for more of my money to help fix Muni. During the poll, I reported that riders face exhausting rides on Muni primarily because the buses and trains are often torturously overcrowded. There are so many of us seniors that often the reserved seats are insufficient in number. I hang on the poles for dear life because the overhead grips are too high for me to reach and the streets are full of potholes. I feel sorry for the workers who have toiled all day are made to stand packed like sardines in a can. If Mayor Gavin Newsom is truly concerned about improving the air quality in San Francisco, and if he is truly an environmentalist, he would add to the Muni budget instead of stealing from it for his own aggrandizement. Tourists Shun Crime-Hit Mexico Beaches
Assaults on American tourists have brought hard times to hotels and restaurants that dot Mexican beaches just south of the border from San Diego. Surfers and kayakers are frightened to hit the waters of the northern stretch of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, long popular as a weekend destination for U.S. tourists. Weddings have been canceled. Lobster joints a few steps from the Pacific were almost empty on the usually busy New Year's weekend. Americans have long tolerated shakedowns by police who boost salaries by pulling over motorists for alleged traffic violations, and tourists know parts of Baja are a hotbed of drug-related violence. But a handful of attacks since summer by masked, armed bandits — some of whom used flashing lights to appear like police — marks a new extreme that has spooked even longtime visitors.
