Thinking About Tomorrow
People will be able to do anything on a hand-held that they can now do on a desktop computer. In fact, they'll be able to do even more, as mobile gadgets increasingly come equipped with global-positioning-system gear that can track your every move. As you drive around, for instance, you might get reviews of nearby restaurants automatically delivered to a screen in your car -- maybe even projected onto the windshield. The spread of GPS hints at another big change on the horizon. We're going to be under a lot more pressure to make our personal information public -- everything from where we surf online to where we're standing at a particular moment. Companies will offer us special deals and other incentives so that we'll let them track our activity. That information, in turn, will let the companies present us with a steady stream of intensely focused marketing whenever we go online, turn on our cellphone or even walk into a store.

ABC's Shipman Slams Linda Tripp on Lewinsky Anniversary
Half a decade after observing the fifth anniversary of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, "Good Morning America" correspondent Claire Shipman filed a report on Monday's show that commemorated ten years since the event. Shipman used the January 21 piece to take a swipe at Lewinsky-gate figure Linda Tripp, snidely labeling her "that questionable, tape-recording friend" and pointing out that she "has remade her face and her life." After observing that Tripp has since opened a store selling Christmas trinkets in Virginia, Shipman mused, "Atonement? Simply irony? Who knows?" During the fifth anniversary segment, on January 16, 2003, this same GMA reporter appeared dismissive of the Lewinsky scandal. She claimed, perhaps hopefully, "It may be, especially in this newly-sobered world, that the Lewinsky episode, as riveting as it seemed at the time, will have little lasting impact, will be little more than a memorable footnote in our political life." A similar tone pervaded Shipman's report on Monday when she described the event as the "national political episode that a decade later, and in a post-September 11th, Iraq-dominated world, seems surreal." .
Your Artist Rating:
Since his debut, 1993's Kirk Franklin & the Family, Kirk Franklin has been one of the brightest stars in contemporary gospel music. The album spent 100 weeks on the gospel charts (some of those on top), crossed over to the R&B charts, and became the first gospel debut album to go platinum. His second album, Kirk Franklin & the Family Christmas, became the genre's first Christmas album to make it to number one, and his 1996 album Whatcha Lookin' 4 went gold as soon as it was distributed. With such phenomenal success, it is small wonder that some have hailed him "the Garth Brooks of gospel." Still, despite all the adulation and brouhaha, Franklin remains a humble, devout Christian, eschewing the title "entertainer" in favor of labeling himself as just a "church boy." Franklin's road to the top, though quick, was far from smooth.

He was right, and it was one of my earliest lessons in building some self-confidence. Charlie always made you feel special, like he had all the time in the world to help you. Paul was my coach for five years between Little and Pony leagues at both New Middletown and Corydon. He taught his players how to play correctly, how to be competitive and, above all, how to have fun while playing. Unlike most Little League coaches today, he coached many teams that did not have any of his own children as players. He coached because he loved people and baseball. Charlie passed away on Nov. 7, Paul on Dec. 27. Lary, Gary, Terry, Steve, Kim and Barb, thank you for sharing your dads with me. My life is better for having known both men. They were great role models for my generation.
Wilson graduate’s body is found
The body of a 2006 Wilson High School graduate was found Tuesday morning on a beach about an hour north of San Francisco, three days after she was swept into the churning sea while trying to rescue her fiance and their dogs, officials said. Hikers found the remains of Ann Madden, 19, washed ashore within a few hundred yards of where she is presumed to have drowned, officials said. Her parents, Joseph T. and Gail E. Madden of Spring Township, were notified by the Sonoma County sheriff's department Tuesday about 1 p.m. Authorities identified Ann Madden and will soon send her remains home, her mother said. “This is so sad, but we're glad they found her," Gail Madden said. “Now she can come home." Sheriff's officials said Tuesday that the death remains under investigation. An autopsy is expected, but it hasn't been scheduled.
