Surfer Recalls Surviving The Jaws Of Death
MARINA , Calif. -- When Todd Endris tells his story, it sounds like a script to a sequel to "Jaws" -- the movie that terrorized moviegoers years ago. Then he lifts his shirt -- the jawed tracks of stitched flesh crisscross his back and the nightmare becomes a reality. Endris was enjoying a day of surfing with friends on August 28 at the Marina State Park near Monterey. It was overcast and a school of dolphins swam nearby. One moment, Endris was paddling in six feet of water, looking for his next wave. The next, he was in a hand-to-hand fight with a Great White Shark, battling for his life. "I think I had only been in the water for about 30 minutes...I had gotten in a few good waves, but I had gotten my best one right before it happened. "Endris told KTVU."A quarter second before, I knew something was going to hit me.
Spectators ignore warning to stay off cliffs at Mavericks
PRINCETON-BY-THE-SEA _ Repeated warnings to stay off the cliffs were ignored Saturday during the Mavericks Surf Contest. At the base, posted signs leaning against barriers warned: "Dangerous hazardous natural conditions, proceed at your own risk." Volunteers stationed themselves nearby and frequent announcements were made asking people to descend the cliff. Some slowly came down, children in tow, while others continued to climb. There were threats of deputies giving citations from announcer Chris Mauro, but Sheriff's Lt. Ken Jones said deputies were told not to cite climbers. Marjorie Berry of Coarsegold, a town near Yosemite, was watching the contest from the very lowest part of the cliff. She said people shouldn't have gone high up the cliff. "It causes a lot of erosion, but I think the ground is holding up pretty well," Berry said.
Is US on Brink of War with Iran?
Of course the US wants to transform the Middle East. Of course it wants to change the Middle East into an area where there are free markets and where it can get easy access to all that oil. The irony of this is that this probably could have been done with patience, diplomacy and the US's secret weapon ( a weapon so secret even the CIA doesn't seem to be aware of it): tourism. But George Bush and Co. fubared it. .
