| Nada Surf map spring dates
Nada Surf have announced a tour of North America, kicking off at SXSW in March. The tour will support the release of ‘Lucky', their brand new album set for release on February 5. The band's fifth album, ‘Lucky' was coproduced by the band and John Goodmanson (Death Cab For Cutie, Blonde Redhead, Sleater-Kinney) with guest appearances by Death Cab's Ben Gibbard and Ed Harcourt among others. The band previously announced a fivedate warm up tour including a show in New York on February 8. The date of their SXSW show has yet to be announced. Nada Surf will be in town on Monday (as in January 7th) to play a free show. Nope, not kidding. Why? They've got a new record coming out entitled "Lucky." Modest Mouse to open for R.E.M.
Issaquah-bred band Modest Mouse will open for R.E.M. when the famed alternative rock band tours North America this May and June. The National is also on the bill. Unfortunately, there are no local dates. The closest they perform is Vancouver, B.C., on May 23 at Deer Lake Park. R.E.M. releases its 14th studio album, "Accelerate," on April 1. Grammy-winning producer Jacknife Lee (www.myspace.com/jacknifelee) worked on the album. Lee has worked with the likes of U2, Snow Patrol and Bloc Party. Kids' music program highlights instrument
The education outreach arm of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra continues this year with Symphony Kids Saturdays. The Music Club for kids will feature programs highlighting woodwinds, percussion, brass and strings with actors performing the roles of the Bird, the Cat, the Duck, the Grandfather, the Hunters, the Wolf and Peter from "Peter & the Wolf." The club will meet in Bluffton at Sea Turtle Cinemas at 9:30 a.m. and at the Main Street Theater on Hilton Head Island at 11:30 a.m. on four Saturdays beginning Feb. 2. Actors from the Hilton Head Dance Theatre under the direction of John and Karen Brock-Carlyle will perform at each event. This program will end with a performance of "Peter & the Wolf" at the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra Family Concert at 2 p.m. March 2 at Hilton Head High School's Visual and Performing Arts Center.
