Tickets for Linkin Park at Staples Center available now
If you hadn't noticed, things got a little slim here over the holidays. Apparently, concert promoters and bands like to take the holidays off. Well, the holidays are over and it looks like everybody's back to work because there are a ton of great shows going on sale this week. Tickets to see Linkin Park, which have been available through multiple presales since December, are finally on sale to everybody. The Los Angeles based rock outfit will return home to Staples Center on March 4 with prog-rock band Coheed and Cambria and post-hardcore outfit Chiodos in on the action. Tickets are $36-$66 and are on sale now. Foo Fighters have added a second night and another opener to their stint at the Forum in Inglewood. System of a Down mouthpiece Serj Tankian will warm up the crowd with Against Me! on March 5 and the new March 6 date.
Albums of the week
Reading's Laura Marling is among 2008's crop of much-hyped female solo acts. Her debut album has been influenced not by vintage soul acts, as the likes of Adele, Duffy and Amy Winehouse have been, but apparently by the likes of outsider acts such as Kimya Dawson, Kristen Hersh, Herman Dune and The Delgados. It is a record more sparse and reflective than one might realistically expect from a teenager, the bonus being that it is quite brilliant, more rewarding with every listen. Rating 4/5 (Review by John Skilbeck) 2) Duke Spirit - Neptune: This five-piece wear their influences on their sleeve - the cover features the band members holding up a portrait of Ronnie Spector, a folk album, two guitars and a toy bird whistle. Liela Moss's soulful vocals are also to the fore, with both PJ Harvey's blues howl and Sioixsie's feline vocals an obvious influence.
The Gospel of Folk Punk according to Jason Webley
When Jason Webley took to the stage at the Vera Project this Saturday, he immediately went into performance mode. During the first song, he started ticking his head back and forth like an automaton -- one of Webley's signature moves. The other thing you will always find at a Jason Webley concert is his hat. That thing has traveled the globe with him, fitting loosely enough to fall off occasionally, but mainly it just moves in time to his eccentric beat. When Webley's not hiding behind it, he makes faces at the crowd to accentuate his songs. After a song about relaxing, Jason's long scraggly hair was streaming down over his face and he pasted on crazy smile that made him appear like a demented prophet (of sort that talks to trees and eats stickbugs). It made you want to lean in and listen to what he was saying...

The Death Cab for Cutie guitarist releases his solo CD, "Field Manual"
His solo album, said Chris Walla, is "a little schizophrenic, all over the map. ... I was trying to explore all those places that I'm interested in, all sorts of different things Death Cab never gets near. That's the biggest thing. I think it's a really sort of scatterbrained variety of stuff. Sometimes it works to its advantage, sometimes it's more like a mix tape." .
Peach Buzz
As regulars will no doubt recall, the 12-year-old Buckhead business had to close last year as the ambitious Streets of Buckhead project pushed the pub out of its old Peachtree Road address in Buckhead Village. The old location is currently a 50-foot hole as developer Ben Carter's high-end shopping, dining, boutique hotel and nightspot vision slowly rises into reality. But around the corner, thanks to a structure built in Ireland and installed here by the Irish Pub Company (the builders of the original site), Fado has a new home on Buckhead Avenue, adjacent to the Atlanta Fulton County Library. "We're very gratified to reincarnate Fado in a location very near to the original pub," McGill told Buzz. "Last year, Ben Carter told me, 'We want you to stay. You're going to serve as an anchor in this neighborhood.' " And judging from what we toured Wednesday, Fado's faithful should feel amazingly at home in the new space.
