| Trestles Victory in Washington D.C. Leads Push Toward Critical ...
With a week to go before a critical California Coastal Commission meeting, the momentum of the Surfrider Foundation's Save Trestles campaign is building. The campaign, which seeks to stop a proposed extension to the 241 Foothill South Toll Road, scored a big win yesterday when President Bush ratified the "Davis Amendment." The amendment, which was sponsored by Rep. Susan Davis (D - San Diego) and included within the 2008 Defense Authorization Bill, mandates that the toll road project must comply with state environmental law. The victory comes just 10 days before a hearing by the California Coastal Commission to determine if the project is consistent with California law. According to a report by the Commission's own staff, the proposed toll road project would violate the California Coastal Act, by irreparably damaging the sensitive San Mateo Creek watershed and surrounding natural and cultural resources.
No scars of failure for veteran coach's offensive line
New York leveled Brady only once in the regular-season finale, but Scarnecchia fully expects that Osi Umenyiora, Michael Strahan, and the boys will be gunning for him. "There isn't a line coach in the world that wouldn't confess to thinking the worst," Scarnecchia said. "You watch the film and you see the defense, and you say, 'This could be bad.' If you don't consider that vision [of the quarterback going down], you shouldn't be here." The Patriots provided excellent protection for Brady in 2007. He was sacked just 21 times, an economic number that produced three Pro Bowl selections: Matt Light, Logan Mankins, and Dan Koppen. "We're not terribly big and we're not terribly talented," Scarnecchia said, "but we're very good at seeing the game through the same set of eyes." They are his eyes, dark and narrow and focused on technique and detail.
