Free man back from living hell

Ref Julian at 13.He plea bargained and had a plea of guilty accepted by the America Court. He would have received a setence of 20 years and two months but as he had already served this he was released on the condition he left the state of conviction. Please note that I have witten this in the lower case because I know what I am talking about ( and do not need emphasis); having served at the Hong Kong bar but also with licence to practise in the states of Utah and California (and Singapore by the way) . Now go back to sleep, but be careful Richey is now out there?ps Stop pretending you know what you are talking about or at least read the court transcripts. .

The Surfing Heritage Foundation Unveils its Collection

Think of King Tut's Tomb plus the Baseball Hall of Fame plus the Library of the Alexandrian Greeks, and you will have the Surfing Heritage Foundation archive.

Like the Alexandrian Greeks -- who attempted to store all the written knowledge of man under one roof -- the Surfing Heritage Foundation is attempting to store a complete archive of surfing history in one place. Like King Tut's tomb, which managed to stay hidden and unraided for centuries, the Surfing Heritage Foundation hides its treasures in an innocuous, easy-to-overlook building in the deserty backlands of San Clemente.

Stored carefully and lovingly in a brand-new, 8,000-square-foot building is an epic collection of surfboards, which begins with Greg Noll's recreation of a Hawaiian olo, then a lot of hardwood boards from Duke to Pacific System Homes to Kivlin and Quigg.

Aberdeen’s turn to boost Scottish game’s feelgood factor

Aberdeen will tonight be surfing the tide of goodwill sweeping through Scottish football as they launch their campaign in the group stages of the UEFA Cup against Panathinaikos.

Jimmy Calderwood, the club's manager, disclosed last night that, after his team's success in overcoming the Ukrainian side Dnipro in the qualifying stages, he has received a heavy mailbag of letters from supporters of Rangers and Celtic wishing the Pittodrie side well.

Tonight, in the Apostolis Nikoaidis Stadium, Calderwood will be willing his frugally assembled squad to do their utmost to emulate their Old Firm rivals' efforts in the Champions League.

For the record

Correction: Because of reporting errors, several facts about the history of the Academy Award nominations were incorrect in a story in the Jan. 23 Living/Arts section about this year's nominations. Linda Hunt was the first woman nominated for playing a man, in "The Year of Living Dangerously," for which she eventually won the Oscar. The first time two people shared a nomination for best director was in 1961, when Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins won for co-directing "West Side Story." Actors nominated more than once for playing the same character were Bing Crosby, as Father O'Malley in "Going My Way" and "The Bells of St. Mary's"; Peter O'Toole, as Henry II in "Becket" and "The Lion in Winter"; and Al Pacino, as Michael Corleone in "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II."

Correction: A Washington Post item in the Daily Briefing column on Monday's Nation page incorrectly said the current Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act authorization will expire on Friday.

The confessions of Clarkson's secret bride

And surprisingly moving in parts it was, too.

Lots of energy - and probably several academic theses - has already been dedicated to analysing Top Gear's success, much of it based on a sociological deconstruction of our love affair with the internal combustion engine. I actually don't think it's anything to do with that. Cars are an effective common denominator, but they are essentially a cypher.

Top Gear is simply about the survival of blokeishness in a feminised world. It's about prime-time gender revenge and anti-authoritarianism and male camaraderie It's about the inner schoolboy in every man; and a nostalgia for the kind of power that men aren't allowed any more. It's the story of the little guy, dominated by his wife, and told to slow down as he's driving the Astra to Asda, who watches Top Gear and whispers "Yes!" under his breath as the three comic musketeers proceed across the land, doing insanely silly things their mothers would never have let them do, and generally dissing girlieness, women's cars and political correctness.

The Weekly DiScussion: readership tipsters, get tipping for 2008

With the regular spew of end-of-year best-albums lists subsiding, attentions across the industry are now turning to who will be hot – and who will be not – in 2008. Tips, the tastemakers call ‘em, these lists of unknowns mingling with the certainly going tos. We're not oblivious either, and will be delivering the DiS opinion on next year's potential Best In Show next week. But in the meantime…

We're after your tips for next year, since we're forever reading about new bands on the site's music board, following links posted by you guys. Don't worry about thinking if your tips are commercially viable propositions (pretty much a prerequisite when considering these things within the industry) – we're more interested in the bands you'd ideally like to see improve their profile in the coming twelve.

10 things ... you gotta know about: Hallandale Beach

Most South Floridians think of Hallandale Beach as a sleepy senior suburb where the lights go out after the early-bird special.

But a metamorphosis of this 60-year-old city has begun. Slow. But sure.

Just a decade ago, the median age of its residents was 64. It's 50 today. School buses now traverse neighborhoods that were once solidly filled with retirees.
